Book Launch of ‘Jean Katambayi Mukendi: Circuits’ at M HKA

1st July, 2026 in Latest news

On 6 June 2026, Jean Katambayi Mukendi: Circuits was launched at the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA), during the opening of RATIO, the artist’s first solo museum exhibition.

Published in collaboration with the Contemporary Art Committee KU Leuven, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, and M HKA, Jean Katambayi Mukendi: Circuits is the first monographic publication dedicated to the work of Congolese artist Jean Katambayi Mukendi. It offers a comprehensive exploration of his artistic practice, which combines technical knowledge, social critique, and speculative imagination.

The launch event featured a guided tour of RATIO with Jean Katambayi Mukendi and curator Anne-Claire Schmitz, followed by a presentation of the publication with contributions by Johannes Muselaers, Stéphane Symons, and art historian Sandrine Colard.

Accompanying the exhibition, the richly illustrated catalogue examines Mukendi’s drawings, paintings, and large-scale sculptures, highlighting the artist’s engagement with questions of technology, resource extraction, and structural inequality. The exhibition marks an important milestone in Mukendi’s international career.

Jean Katambayi Mukendi: Circuits is available in paperback and as an open-access publication.
