This week, the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) invites scholars, learned societies, organizations, and advocates to make a clear and compelling case for the value of research in the humanities and social sciences.

As an academic publisher, we too strongly believe that sustainable, future‑proof publishing goes hand in hand with equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. These principles are not add‑ons; they are essential to how knowledge is created, shared, and used.

That’s exactly why we need more research in the humanities and social sciences. These fields help inform policy, amplify diverse and often underrepresented voices, and address global challenges with the nuance and critical insight they demand. At a time of rapid social, technological, and political change, this work has never been more vital.
